👋 Hey there! I’m Jeremy Smith, a Ruby developer who loves backpacking. I’m putting together a backpacking trip in the southern Appalachians for 6-10 fellow Rubyists in the fall of 2024.
If you’re interested, check out the details below.
Some of the details are subject to change, but most of this is set.
A 33-mile section of the Appalachian Trail, starting a half mile from Standing Bear Hostel and ending in Hot Springs, NC. The closest airport is Asheville Regional Airport.
September 18-22 Hitting the trail on Wednesday early afternoon, arriving in Hot Springs on Saturday evening.
Free! I mean, I’m not personally charging anything. This is an informal trip among Ruby friends, new and old. You will, of course, need to pay for your own travel, accommodations, food, backpacking gear, etc. And we will split any shared costs, like a shuttle service and gas (if we share rides).
I’ll do my best to be a good host on the trail. I’ll set the itinerary, communicate the details with everyone, provide trail maps, organize transportation from our vehicles to the trailhead, and help everyone be as informed and comfortable as possible.
You’ll be responsible for your own travel to the region, your own personal safety, and your own gear and provisions.
This trip is already fully booked. But if you are interested in being notified about future trips (if any), feel free to DM me on Twitter, or email me.
